Founders Day

Founder’s Day began as a celebration to honor Judge George Gale the founder of Galesville. The events were held at Old Main on the former Galesville University campus which Judge Gale founded. Over the last couple years Old Main and East Side Farm have joined forces with the Galesville Area Chamber of Commerce to make this celebration a living tradition that can bring us together to remember the past and enjoy the present.

The Arnold House hosted the 2nd Minnesota Battery of Light Infantry, a Civil War enactment group based in Red Wing, MN.    The camp featured tents, clothing and other authentic items from the period. A 19th century style stew lunch was served on the lawn to remember the Civil War period.  The most exciting part was the firing of a period cannon, carried out with all the authentic protocols.
